After the carnage of the previous episode Satoko takes a moment to reflect on recent events and what she can do to get the cat to stay.
Satoko is confident that she has everything in the bag but Eua ominously reminds her that if she dies before the cat, it is game over. Was that a warning or a prophesy?
Things are less rosy for Rika as she awakens and is confused at how events turned the way they did despite doing all the right things. Hanyuu tries to reassure Rika that perhaps things are different this time and if she only looks out for the subtle differences, she may find a clue to her predicament.
Rika wakes up and her past memories still haunt her. Satoko is there to provide comfort and words of advice…
But is her advice really sincere?
Things lighten up with a spot of baseball. Satoko is the star of the show and displays a masterclass in how to sandbag a game. This girl always likes to play games?
After a little post-match celebration Satoko goes for a bike ride...
Unknown to others, Satoko’s spends the day with her uncle, Teppei playing a bit of mahjong, trouncing her uncle’s mates.
After all is said and done, she plays the love card on her Teppei.
Putting a pity story her uncle falls hook, line and sinker for offer Satoko’s stories.
She also turns it on for Rika by dropping the bombshell she is going to live with her uncle again. Rika is distraught.
What is Satoko up to? Who knows but Eua is certainly loving Satoko’s antics…
Episode 8
Rika pleads and pleads for Satoko to stay…
But it is to no avail as Satoko must keep her nii-nii room from harm.
Rumours begin to swirl that someone unsavoury is coming back to Hinamizawa.
Meanwhile Satoko is playing her uncle like a pro!
But the games don’t stop there as she plays on Rika’s anxieties about her family situation. Satoko is a wily old fox!
The tension in Rika and Mion is clear for all to see and Keiichi smells a rat...
Everything is just going swimmingly for Satoko! (I can hear the evil manic laughing)
Keiichi can't take the BS going on and calls out a meeting do something. For fans of Higurashi you can see where this is going. Satoko on the other hand is frolicking around getting all soaked and dirty. What a rascal!
Coming home looking all battered. Satoko’s uncle fears the worst and it takes all of her strength to calm him down.
Satoko misses a second day from school and her friends can no longer contain their emotions. They march into the Chie-sensei’s office to demand action is taken.
In the Hojo household Satoko acting skills continue to impress as she bamboozles her uncle yet again. He can barely contain his anger that everyone is out to bully Satoko.
Satoko's teacher arrives and Teppei shuts her down much to the amusement of Satoko.
Returning to the school empty handed the reaction of Rika says it all…
Pressure is applied to get social services to call but any further escalation is thwarted when Satoko says all is well.
Satoko does finally show her face at school. Things quickly take a turn and it is not long before the water works start again. What is notable is Rika's reaction. Is the cat finally smelling a rat?
Give Satoko an Oscar for her acting skills these past two episodes! As dramatic as it was what is perhaps more notable are the cryptic lines Eua says at the end. This is the second time she hinted at disaster which appears to foreshadow some impending doom for our puppet master. I wonder who will get the final laugh?
